Academic Program Policies
Attendance Policy
- Attendance is required for academic classes and labs. Absences will be recorded as a zero for the student's participation score. In class quizzes will not be sent home for unexcused absences.
- Students with continued unexcused absences will be expelled from the program.
- Parents are asked to report an absence by the morning of class using the "Report an Absence" form on the LV Families page of the website.
- Parents should notify teachers in advance of any vacation.
- Parents should request school work for any days (weeks) student will be missing from class and provide the last date student will be in class prior to vacation. The teacher will attempt to put the vacation work in the student’s homework folder that day.
- In any case (whether the student received the work ahead of time or upon returning to class) the school work will be given only 1 extra week for completion. School work which is not completed by this deadline will be marked as missing or incomplete and given a zero.
- It is the parents’ full responsibility to have researched all the novels and main curriculum prior to registering their child for any LV classes to fully understand to what they are committing. Students will be expected to participate in class and complete all work assigned.
- Parents taking issue with any novel or main component of the curriculum, once the school year begins, will be fully responsible for their misunderstanding, and students who do not complete work or do not participate in any part of a class should expect to get a zero on their homework assignments/tests not completed in relation to that topic.
- It is the parents’ responsibility to keep all academic records of their student up to date. The Learning Vine will not be liable for keeping any student records beyond the end of the school year (May 31st). This would include grades, class description, placements test results, etc. Therefore, parents should make certain that they print out the syllabus, book list and grades from each class their student attended before the May31st deadline.
- The Learning Vine will not issue transcripts, placement recommendations, or letters of recommendation to any institution. Personal letters of recommendation from a teacher or administrator are allowed, but only at the teacher’s and/or administrator’s discretion.
- Placement tests are used only to help The Learning Vine staff place students into Learning Vine classes. They are in no way intended to determine deficiencies, tutoring needs, or placement into programs or courses outside of The Learning Vine.
- Copies of placement tests cannot be provided to parents or any outside institution. Since the tests are used year after year, the integrity of the tests cannot be compromised. A Learning Vine administrator may provide some information regarding results if a student does not place into a class (at the administrator’s discretion). However, the Learning Vine administrators are not in any way obligated to share these results with a parent, institution, or any person for any reason.
