Jr & Sr High English
Reading: Students will learn to analyze literature through the use of great novels and a reading anthology with practiced and tested reading skills.

Writing: Instruction includes the completion of a different type of paper every four weeks. Pre-writing and drafting worksheets and textbook reading fully instruct the students in the specifics of the writing genre, how to organize information, and to create strong thesis statements. Proofreading and polishing are taught and practiced in class and at home.

Grammar: Higher level grammar concepts are taught.
Jr/Sr High english classes meet on Mondays for 70-75 minutes and Fridays for 55 minutes.
English A/B (7TH & 8TH GRADES)Prerequisites: Ability to pass reading, grammar, and writing placement tests demonstrating successful completion of a 6th OR 7th grade language arts course or successful completion of LV Language Arts 6 or 7.
Curriculum: Holt Elements of Literature, Bob Jones Writing and Grammar and various novel studies. |
The focus of this course will be the study of literature, writing, and grammar to prepare students for a college preparatory high school experience. Through an in-depth study of literature, students will strengthen their reading abilities in both analysis and comprehension. Biblical morals and values using a variety of short stories, literature, poetry, and novels will be emphasized throughout the course. Critical thinking skills will be developed through discussion and activities both in class and at home. The mechanics of grammar will be learned through practice and then incorporated into the students' own writing. Some of the types of writing studied this year will be narrative, expository, persuasive, and personal. Leveled grammar homework will be assigned according to grade. This course is certain to help students polish and refine composition skills as well as deepen their love for literature.
High School ENGLISH (9TH - 12TH GRADES)High School Credit: 1.0 English—writing intensive

This course develops a solid foundation in reading, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary in preparation for higher level studies of all subjects. All literature is studied from a Christian perspective, and themes important to developing strength of character and morals are emphasized throughout.
This course continues to build on the skills started in English A/B and continues to strengthen writing skills. A deep appreciation for literature and learning is emphasized along with reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills. An emphasis on public speaking and presentation skills will be developed and honed throughout the year.

Combined Grades
Some of our grade levels are combined as shown above. Homework and testing are grade specific for each elementary level. Writing is graded by the teacher with the student's actual grade level in mind. Critical Thinking and Reading Comprehension
