Does your child LOVE arts & crafts? Art Lab is not simply a drawing or painting class! We will paint, glue, decoupage, and craft our way through a new project every week! At least one of our projects will be a self-portrait that is an beautiful keepsake! This class is all of the fun of arts and crafts with none of the mess for parents!

Cartooning 101Teacher: Dennis Edwards
In this class, students will study some iconic cartoons and why they are so effective. We will progress through creating their own comic strip. Students will also do some caricature studies, and even their own caricature. The class will focus on drawing with pen and ink. We will also work on adding color to enhance the work, colored pencils, pastels, even some watercolor.

Cartooning Design & CompositionTeacher: Dennis Edwards
This class is for students who have completed at least one of Mr. Edward’s cartooning courses. The students will be exposed to a variety of cartoon styles and learn what makes them a successful design. They will be utilizing the steps we have learned about shapes to create their own original characters to be used in a scene of some kind, utilizing a single panel to multiple panels to tell a short story.

Advanced ComicsTeacher: Dennis Edwards
We will build upon what we have learned about designing characters by looking at a couple of different styles of cartooning. Japanese Anime style comics will be our first deep dive. We will learn how to create that style of drawing by looking at many different examples, and create one of our own. Next. we will be looking into the western style, (Marvel, DC, etc.), and see how they differ as we create our own superhero in that style. Prerequisites: At least 2 drawing courses completed.

WatercolorsTeacher: Dennis Edwards
The students will be learning some basics in watercolor. We'll start with some beginning color theory, and making their own color wheel. Some drawing will be required as we go over creating composition as we plan our paintings. We will be doing many paintings during the course of the semester.

drawing fundamentals 2Teacher: Dennis Edwards
In Drawing 2 we will be continuing to learn how to slow down and draw what we see. I will also be reviewing how to deconstruct what we see in life to their basic shapes, to help us understand how to recreate it on the page. The students will get more opportunities to use different mediums in this class like ink/ink washes and ballpoint pens. Prerequisites: Drawing Fundamentals 1
