Does your child LOVE arts & crafts?  Art Lab is not simply a drawing or painting class! We will paint, glue, decoupage, and craft our way through a new project every week!  At least one of our projects will be a self-portrait that is an beautiful keepsake! This class is all of the fun of arts and crafts with none of the mess for parents!  ​

Beyond the Basics: Drawing 2

AGES 8-18 
PERIOD 4 (12:30-1:25 PM)
In Drawing 2 I want the kids to explore different mediums to draw with. We'll start out doing some drawings in pencil, but quickly move to charcoal. The student will practice light and dark, and how to use the charcoal to shade their work. We will use ballpoint pens to create some drawings of landscapes. The final project will be a drawing on brown paper using a white conte crayon.  
**Prerequisite: previous drawing class.

Cartoons, Caricatures and Super Heroes

Teacher:  Dennis Edwards
AGES 8-18
PERIOD 3 (​11-11:55PM)
This class will be dealing with 3 types of cartooning. We will practice drawing simple cartoon characters to start off, people, animals and environments will be our focus for a few weeks. Then we will practice drawing caricatures of people we know after a lesson or two about exaggerating features. Finally we will jump into a few lessons on creating super heroes. The students will have a chance to design their very own.

Exciting Earrings

Teacher: Deniele Leonard
AGES: 8-18
PERIOD 1 (9-9:55 AM)
Welcome crafters of all skill levels! This jewelry course will
focus on creating stunning earrings from a variety of materials, including beads, embroidery thread, faux leather, and more. We’ll learn about creating/using templates, twisting wire, visually arranging colors and size, and presentation. Emphasis will be placed on design and composition, giving students artistic freedom while teaching principles on balance. An overview on incorporating cutting machines (like Circuit) will be included, but machines will not be used during class. By the end of the course students will have learned the skills to gift or sell their creations.

FACES, Figures, & Fun

Teacher: Dennies Edwards
AGES: 8-18
PERIOD 3 (11-11:55 AM)
I will be going into great detail teaching the students how to draw people, starting with making portraits. The student will learn the proportions of the head and face, and how to create hair. Then we will draw the body. I will teach the students how to draw with correct proportions. We will also learn how to draw hands. There will be a lot of handouts, so make sure your student has a folder to keep them.
**Prerequisite: previous drawing or cartooning class.

Come explore the world of art! Each week we will make connections from literature to arts and crafts.  We will build our fine motor skills by cutting, tracing, coloring, and painting.  We will also move and wiggle by learning fingerplays and songs that go with our book and art project theme for the day.

Origami Adventures ​

PERIOD 5 (1:30-2:25 PM)
Welcome to Origami Adventures, a fun and creative class where students learn the art of paper folding! Each week, students will explore new paper folds to create origami models from animals to flowers and so much more! This class will spark creativity within your child but also strengthen focus, patience and hand-eye coordination. Join our Origami Adventure and be amazed at all you can create from a simple sheet of paper!​

Stop Motion Studio

Teacher: Diedre Anderson
AGES 8-18
PERIOD 2 (10-10:55 AM)
In this hands-on class, kids become filmmakers and bring their ideas to life—one frame at a time! Students will learn the basics of stop motion animation using simple materials like toys, drawings, and everyday objects. We’ll explore storytelling, character creation, set design, and how to use tablets or cameras to capture movement and turn it into a short animated movie. Along the way, kids build creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills while having a ton of fun. By the end of the course, each student will have their own stop motion film to share and be proud of! Students need to bring their own tablets.

Watercolors

Teacher:  Dennis Edwards
AGES 10-18
PERIOD 1 ​(​9:00-9:55 AM)
The students will be learning some basics in watercolor. We'll start with some beginning color theory, and making their own color wheel. Some drawing will be required as we go over creating composition as we plan our paintings. We will be doing many paintings during the course of the semester.
