Introduction
to Logic
Instructor: Roy Hayley
Mr.
Hayley: I’m teaching logic with a book entitled, The
Fallacy Detectives -- and I really like it.
Mr.
Naysayer: Aw, the authors of that book are just a couple
of homeschoolers. What do they know about logic?
Mr.
Naysayer is illustrating a fallacy (an error in logic) called
an “ad hominem attack”. But don’t
mind him. Introduction to Logic is a great way
for students to get grounded in
critical thinking skills. Mr. Hayley is a veteran teacher
of logic to children and this class will focus on practical
logic
in a Christian context. The text will be The Fallacy
Detective which presents topics in a fun and non-intimidating
manner. Students start to learn skills they can use right
away. It will help train them to spot fallacies in logic
and be better equipped
to reason in today’s relativistic culture.
